Lymphedema Clinic
Health Information
Swelling can be a chronic problem resulting from surgery, trauma, a genetic dysfunction,
or other various causes. The arms, legs, genitals, and even the head and face can be involved. If severe enough, swelling can result in pain or limited functional ability and may be cosmetically displeasing. The
good news is that there is treatment that can reduce most types of swelling, either partially or completely. Complex Decognitive Physiotherapy (CDP) is a combination of massage, bandaging, home exercise, and skin
care. This non-invasive treatment helps reduce and control swelling. If a patient has swelling, he or she should discuss treatment options with his or her physician. The Lymphedema Clinic, located in Halifax Medical
Center's 201 Building, will gladly schedule an evaluation to determine if CDP is appropriate. A physician's prescription is required. For more information or to schedule an evaluation, call the Lymphedema Clinic at
386-258-4969.
