Question: What is the history of Halifax Medical Center? Answer: On January 3, 1928, "Halifax District Hospital"d its doors. It was built
atop the highest point in the Daytona Beach area and was considered to be far on the outskirts of town and that year 27 team members cared for 1,418 patients. Since then Halifax Medical Center has operated continuously in the community for over 70 years. From 1942 to 1947 it joined the national war effort, serving the U.S. Army as a convalescent hospital. At the end of its military service, it was completely remodeled and red as an acute care general hospital. With 764 beds, Halifax Medical Center is the recognized leader in providing comprehensive health care and services to the communities of Florida's Funcoast (East Central Florida).
