The Halifax Endocrinology Center is a physician practice specializing in the treatment of diabetes, thyroid and other metabolic disorders. Endocrinologists Alberto Gonzalez and Benigno Digon see patients on an outpatient basis, as well as continuing to provide care and services for patients in Halifax Medical Center. The Center provides:

Staff: Alberto Gonzalez-Alveraz, MD Dr. Gonzalez has been a hospital based endocrinologist at
Halifax Medical Center since November 2005. He completed his residency in internal medicine at the University of Medicine and Dentistry New Jersey – affiliate Mountainside Hospital in Montclair, New Jersey, where he
was also Chief Medical Resident. He went on to do a fellowship in Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism at the New York Medical College – Saint Vincent’s Hospital Medical Center. He was former Clinical Assistant
Professor of Medicine at New York Medical College and former Clinical Director of the Outpatient Diabetes clinic at the New York Eye and Ear Infirmary. He is Board Certified in Internal Medicine, Endocrinology,
Diabetes and Metabolism.
Benigno J. Digon III, MD Dr. Digon is a graduate of the University of Miami with a BS in Biology. He received his
Medical Doctorate degree at the Universidad Central del Caribe School of Medicine in Puerto Rico and completed his residency in Internal Medicine at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine, Cabrini Medical Center in New
York City.
He continued his Fellowship in Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism at the National Institute of Health (NIH), and National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK), Islet Autoimmunity Branch (IAB) in Bethesda, Maryland where he specialized in diabetes mellitus management and islet of Langerhans isolation and transplantation. Prior to joining Halifax Medical Center he was in private practice in Endocrinology in Central Florida. Dr. Digon brings with him a well rounded clinical and unique experience in managing Endocrinological diseases due to his training in clinical research. He has authored and co-authored articles and book chapters on diabetes.
Myra Vergani MS, RD, CDE Myra Vergani received both her BS and MS degrees from Winthrop University in Human Nutrition.
Her Master’s Thesis involved researching the available literature on Herbal Products and producing a handbook for dietitians discussing the value of over 70 herbal products. She has also worked on a FDA study researching the benefits of food supplementation in the elderly with and without diabetes. Later she received her Certified Diabetes Educator license (CDE) and began working with diabetes programs in both North and South Carolina, helping them become ADA recognized. Myra has worked at Halifax Medical Center since 2002 and currently manages the Diabetes Education Program where she counsels patients in individual and group settings helping them to manage their diabetes without complications.
