Volusia/Flagler Counties’ Promise – The Alliance for Youth
Halifax · Fish Community Health (HFCH) community arm affiliate, Healthy Communities, led efforts to become a Community of Promise in Volusia County in 1998. Since that time, neighboring Flagler County was
added to the initiative for 2000. Theefforts of thecommunitypartnership of more than 50 agencies and organizations that created Volusia/Flagler Counties Promise – The Alliance for Youth continues to make a
difference in the lives of children and youth today.
America’s Promise – The Alliance for Youth is a national not-for-profit organization led by Founding Chairman General Colin Powell dedicated to mobilizing the nation to ensure our children and youth have access
to the fundamental resources they need to become successful adults. The five America’s Promise Fundamental Resources are:
Mentor: An ongoing relationship with a caring adult (parent, mentor, tutor or coach);
Protect: Safe places and structured activities;
Nurture: A healthy start;
Prepare:
A marketable skill through effective education; and
Serve: An opportunity to give back through community service.
