Good News For
Blue Cross Blue Shield Members

You asked us to help. We listened.
Here’s the solution.

Since Blue Cross Blue Shield Florida abruptly terminated its negotiations with us for a new Agreement that would provide a return to our hospitals in line with Medicare and other insurers, we have heard from many of you. We are honored that so many have told us how important they consider access to our doctors, nurses, therapists and other personnel and facilities.

While we have been unable to interest Blue Cross and Blue Shield in resuming reasonable negotiations, we have been working to find the solution you have asked us for. And we have found it for the majority of Blue Cross members by shifting from Blue Cross to you much of the discount Blue Cross has received as a result of your membership.

EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY:

Medicare Supplemental NOT affected - Medicare patients having standard supplemental insurance policies issued by Blue Cross can receive services at HMC as usual.

Medicare Advantage 65 Supplemental Policies NOT affected. This contract is still in effect and will remain in effect. Services at HMC as usual.

Blue Cross Blue Shield PPC (PPO Product), Blue Cross PHS, & Blue Cross Care Manager: You are welcome at Halifax Medical Center. Halifax will adjust the out-of-network co-insurance penalty (up to 20%) that Blue Cross will deduct, when you promptly forward their payment which will come to you along with your normal deductible and/or co-insurance payment. (Should the penalty be more than 20% case by case consideration will be provided.) Call our Blue Cross Blue Shield Hotline (see below).

Blue Cross Out-of –State, Blue Cross Federal Employees & Blue Cross National Accounts (NASCO) likely not affected. But if you are, the same provisions described above for PPC members will apply and your use of our services can continue without extra cost to you.

Blue Cross Health Options:  Emergencies are covered. The completion of treatments underway will be covered. We regret that other services are not available to Health Options patients.

All Blue Cross Blue Shield patients are welcome at Bert Fish Medical Center, whose participating status in Blue Cross continues through January 31, 2002. After that time, if conditions are unchanged, the procedures outlined here will apply.
